About Us
Nestled on the western banks of Lough Derg, Mountshannon is one of Irelands most beautiful villages, and has an ancient monastic settlement just off shore, on Iniscealtra, or Holy Island as it is known locally. The local festival has been running since 1997. Each year brings a new collection of exhibitions, performances and workshops to inspire and entertain both locals, and visitors to the area.
Rooted in the visual arts, the ethos of Mountshannon Arts is to create access to works and exhibitions that would not be easy to find in a rural area, while at the same time stimulating the creation of works and performances from within the local community. There is also an emphasis on families, and we aim to create a fun filled festival, with circus, puppet shows, craft workshops and much much more.
THE ORGANISERS
Mountshannon Arts is run as a non-profit, community venture, by a changing group of local volunteers. If you feel you would personally like to get involved in whatever way, big or small, we will be happy to hear from you. Please drop us a line via the contact page.
VISION
Through the arts, Mountshannon Arts hopes to foster greater connectedness, both within our community and with the wider world. Our vision is to stimulate and cultivate creative expression through artistic ventures, reflecting and inspired by our unique community and setting.
MISSION
Mountshannon Arts is committed to supporting and sustaining emerging and established, local and visiting artists, while fostering awareness, appreciation of, and community participation in, multi-disciplinary arts.
We aim to promote and cultivate a variety of creative projects, across all art forms. To this end we intend to:
Continue to develop and bring the arts to Mountshannon throughout the year.
Act as a conduit for artistic ideas within the community and a means to bring individuals and groups together to create art.
Include and encourage creative involvement with children, young adults and other groups in our diverse community.
Shape the development of our historic village, mindful of the unique beauty bestowed by Lough Derg, Sliabh Aughty and Inis Cealtra, so that it continues to be an inspiration and fertile ground for the Arts.
Accessibility
We are deeply committed to ensuring that the Festival is accessible to everyone, regardless of their individual needs. This is why we constantly strive to improve our accessibility and make sure that all members of our community can fully participate in and enjoy the events.
