‘Art in Studios’ Summer Show
Scariff Library, Scariff - 26 May to 12 June
Art in Studios is a recent initiative which gives the public access to a network of 12 contemporary art and craft studios in East Clare, all within easy access of one another. This 'Arts Trail' provides a unique opportunity to visit local artists at work in their studios, speak with them about their practice and if desired, purchase art work directly from them. The 'Art in Studios' arts trail showcases a great diversity of artists and makers in East Clare including painters, printers, sculptors and artists working with ceramics, glass, mosaic, encaustic and fabric. All are fully practising creators who regularly exhibit their artworks in group and solo exhibitions locally and around the country.
The trail highlights the processes of art and craft making and a number of the artists in the 'trail' offer to share these skills and techniques, through workshops and demonstrations held at various times throughout the year. The artists concerned would be delighted to let you know when these take place if contacted directly.

Isabelle Gaborit
Isabelle Gaborit is a contemporary artist, though her preferred medium of encaustic is ancient. In her studio located on the scenic shores of Lough Derg, County Clare, she has rekindled the ancient painting process of Encaustics, an immediate and tactile painting method using molten pigmented beeswax. Her creative process involves the application of semi-transparent layers of pigmented beeswax manipulated by blowtorch, striving to create depth and translucency without compromising the spirit of the medium or subject matter.
In this new body of work, Isabelle addresses the universal themes of patterns, flow, and rhythm embedded in her connection to the natural world, visible and invisible.
Isabelle is a professional visual artist (BA hons) who was born in La Rochelle in the south west of France but currently resides in Ireland. As a student she has gained a foundation in sculpture, drawing and painting at l’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Poitiers, France and graduated in 2006 with an honours degree in fine arts in Ireland. Since then she has been exhibiting my work extensively nationally and internationally, among others, Northern Ireland, China and France. She is a former member of Artspace in Galway and G126 and one of the founding members of Art in Studio, East Clare artist studios trail.

Kathryna Cuschieri
Kathryna Cuschieri is a Maltese artist living and working in the heart of East Clare. She works with the properties of hot glass to fuse, slump and cast works of art. Her passion can be seen through the vivid colours, movement and beauty of her glassworks. Her body-cast pieces are created by inviting an individual’s inner mythical image to be fused within several layers of glass. When this is fused into a single sheet it is then slumped into the body-cast mould in a kiln. The final result is a body-cast of glass with the personal mythical image running through it.
Her vessels are influenced by her kayak journeys through Irish rivers and lakes.
She uses many inclusions in her glass work. These can be organic materials and gold and silver mica. Leaf and wire of gold, silver, copper, aluminium, bronze.
The glassworks range from small seascapes, vessels, sculptures to interior and exterior architectural glass pieces framed in steel or copper.

Lynn Kenny
Lynn has been practising as a mixed media and stitch artist for 25 years after graduating from the National College of Art and Design in Dublin. Learning her craft in inner city Dublin to honing it amongst the forests and lakes of rural Co Clare; Lynn moved to East Clare 15 years ago. Stitch is predominate in much of her work and its versatility, texture, line and ability to attach materials together is what excites Lynn about this medium. Her work is known for its representation of a playful and stylised bird motif, which also provides the imagery for her extensive range of china ware and textile products. She works to commission and her artwork is part of many public and private collections, including Beaumont Hospital Dublin and Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda.
In this series of work however, Lynn works primarily in acrylic paint on canvas. This series of landscape paintings are local to Ogonnelloe as they were painted during the 5 km restrictions of 2020/2021. Familiar landmarks and rural scenes provided the subject matter for this series. The limitation put on the freedom to move, gave Lynn the opportunity to really explore the lush and beautiful landscape in which she lives. These landmarks and scenes became an ever day sight as her family traipsed the roads and walked the hedgerows.

Nathalie El Baba
Nathalie El Baba is a visual artist and experienced facilitator, based close to the small town of Scariff in County Clare. Her studio is in a peaceful location amongst the rolling hills East Clare is famous for. This rural place has been her home for many years and has provided her with many opportunities to connect with both the landscape and the communities here in the West of Ireland.
She works with themes of migration and connection, reflective of her own journey – her family left Lebanon when she was a young child during the civil war – but also reflective of the many stories of movement across lands from the people she has met.
Through her painting Nathalie explores the strong emotional connection to place in Ireland. She is fascinated by the sense of rootedness, contrasted against the constant movement of the sky. Where do we see ourselves belonging? Do those who have known migration ever belong to place? Her work explores the narratives of both our internal and external landscapes.
Nathalie holds a B.A. in Art and Design, Certificate in Youths Art, Post Graduate Diploma in Fine Art, and is a certified Story Exchange Facilitator trained by Narrative 4.
