Scariff Bay Community Radio

September 25th/26th (see SBCR programme listing for broadcast time or tune in on podbean)

TY students from Scariff Community College have come together with sound artist, Slavek Kwi to create an experimental radio programme. Together they explore the challenges of communication within the current climate of uncertainty. Much inspiration came from the Cicada Brand X insect which emerged in May 2021 in Maryland USA after seventeen years underground.

1VOICES radio simulation project - prototype for youth & children oriented radio broadcast, involving group of TY students from Scariff Community College, June 2021.

Students involved: Grace Guilfoyle, Megan Kilkenny, Maeve McCaul, Roisin Collins, Sarah Dooley, Fiona O'Brien, Laobhaise O'Donnell, Mark O'Halloran, Owen Drost with facilitation of Shulagh Colleran & Slavek Kwi

The resulting piece, assembled by Slavek from segments recorded with TY students includes the participation of trillions of Cicadas Brood X recorded simultaneously in Maryland USA by Stephen Bradley. You can hear the voices of David Rothenberg, David Attenborough and Greta Thunberg sprinkled throughout the sound-scape.
