Sinéad and Kara

1.30 – 2 pm

Sinéad has been writing songs and spoken word for almost 15 years, beginning in Edinburgh where she studied fine art and design and continuing around the world from Dublin to Tasmania, Thailand to Bali and all the way back to the motherland. She is now settled with her family in Mountshannon, East Clare since January 2020. Always inspired by the people and nature surrounding her she sings traditional style - folk - blues melody and has just written her first song in Gaelic - with more to come. She is trained as an intuitive guide and bodyworker and uses her voice shamanically with drum to accompany, guide and journey into meditation, trance and dance. Her wish is to create a new tradition of song that uplifts and inspires - connecting to the ancestors and transcending the shadows, through deep connection with spirit, nature, each other.

Kara is a multi genre singer, originally from Minnesota. After studying classical music, she developed a passion for folk music through her travels, which brought her to Ireland in 2015 to study sean-nos singing in Gaelic. It was here that she developed a deep connection with not only the songs of Ireland, but the landscape, the people, and the stories surrounding them. Her singing style and career now beautifully encompass the contrasting styles of both classical and traditional music. After falling in love with an Irishman and traveling the country together collecting songs, they landed in Mountshannon two years ago. Their joint passion for tradition and nature is prevalent in the old stone farmhouse they are renovating, using traditional, breathable materials. Kara is currently doing a PhD in Limerick to uncover how songs evoke a sense of place, in an attempt to develop a deeper understanding for her spiritual connection to a place she was not born in. Through the songs she sings and writes, she hopes to strengthen the power of the tradition of song in a way that inspires and connects people to themselves, their community, and the land around them.

Sinéad and Kara have been co-writing mainly acapella songs for the past 6 months. They find their inspiration in the nature, culture, people and creatures that surround them. Their harmonies are entrancing and take you on a magical spell binding journey of soulful sounds and song.

The Higglers

6.30 - 7.45 pm

The Higglers are a cookin old-time band from the hills of Clare featuring the inspired fiddle playing of Frank Hall, with rockin rhythm section of Brendan Hearty (guitar) and Paul Johnson (bass). Raw Appalachian melodies, back-country vocals, and heel-kickin dance beat give this band the roots-juice of old-time, pre-bluegrass, boogie music. The Higglers vocals include mountain songs, original songs in traditional settings, as well as lost love, murder ballads, and serenades.
