Mountshannon Arts
The inaugural Arts Festival took place in Mountshannon in 1997, which means that our festival this year will be our 25th. Clearly, with the times we are living in, it is hard to make plans, and it is a particularly difficult time for the Arts sector, with few possibilities to work with live audiences.
However, we are determined to provide opportunities for artists, this year, and to do our utmost to bring live art and cultural events, back into our community.
As things stand we are planning two ‘mini-festivals’ this year. The first on the June Bank Holiday, as usual, and another one later in the year, when we can be more optimistic about holding live events with audiences. We also intend to celebrate Poetry Day Ireland and Culture Night, as we do annually, and to hold other events throughout the year.
As you can see we have expanded beyond the scope of the ‘Mountshannon Arts Festival’. We want to bring artistic and cultural events into Mountshannon throughout the year. So we have decided to call ourselves Mountshannon Arts with the Mountshannon Arts Festival as our biggest yearly event.
As always we strive to be inclusive, and would love to hear of any thoughts and ideas you may have to celebrate our 25th festival, or just suggestions for arts projects that you would like to see happening in Mountshannon.
Our theme for this year is ‘Regeneration’, which seems particularly apt in these difficult times.
We hope this finds you in good spirits despite all of the current challenges, and look forward to better times ahead.
