Poetry Day - Four events in Mountshannon!
Poetry Day Ireland takes place on Thursday 28th April. Poetry related events will take place all over the country. The theme this year is “Written in the Stars”. Mountshannon Arts have four events planned to celebrate the day.
How much is our destiny decided for us… An Evening of Poetry
Under the Oak - 7pm
We will have an evening of poetry and discussion in Under the Oak Café, where we will explore the theme from the perspective of “How much is our destiny decided for us, and how much can we influence our own destiny”. We are delighted to be joined by local poet Sarah Clancy, who we have wanted to bring to Mountshannon for several years and Nqobizitha Vella, a feminist born and raised in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.
The evening will take place in an informal way, where you can sip on a glass of wine, or other drink, whilst listening to, and taking part in the discussion, and if anyone would like to contribute with their own poetry, or a piece of poetry that you feel relates to the theme, then that would be very welcome.
Ticket price €10 includes a selection of Peggy’s amazing Tapas which will be available after the discussion, when we can mingle and talk further.

Poetry Postcards written in the Stars
The imaginative pupils of Iniscealtra NS have been working with Mountshannon Arts to create Poetry Postcards for Poetry Day Ireland, Thursday April 28th 2022. These rising artistic stars have been busy drawing and painting. The children are writing their poems and the postcards will be displayed on Poetry Day. Get in touch with mountshannonpoetry@gmail.com if you would like to receive a poetry postcard to send back to the pupils.
