Spliced
Spliced
Timmy Creed plays hurling. He loves it, he hates it, but for better or worse, it’s a part of him. Written with sportspeople in mind, this one-man show, uses everything Timmy’s experience in the GAA has to offer - he is physically and mentally stepping on and off the grass to portray the toll the expectations of the game took on him, and what an overriding single focus does to a young mind.
Honest, brave, joyous, witty and hard-hitting, Spliced is a visceral account of Timmy's struggle to become an individual outside of the sporting institution that raised him. Let’s talk about identity, masculinity and mental health in the clubs at the heart of our communities.
“Spliced is a rip-roaring ride through the highs and lows of playing GAA. Timmy Creed's explosive energy will have you on the edge of your seat throughout as he brings you on a hugely emotive personal journey that many will be able to relate to”
(Cian Tracey, Sports Writer, Irish Independent)
After the performance Diarmuid Lyng will facilitate a discussion between Timmy Creed, Brendan Bugler and the audience.
Post match performances are usually postmortemed in pubs and clubs, but Spliced was always about starting a conversation on the culture within and surrounding the game of hurling. It can be defined by resistances and resonances, moments in the play that strike a nerve, a remembering, a rekindling, a realisation, and we want to create a space where that reaction has the opportunity to add to the conversation, to challenge or congratulate, to probe aspects of the game un-considered to date, that it may pique further exploration, a further questioning of what this ancient game actually means to us.
Or alternatively, maybe it goes no further, but you are heard, and your contribution valued.
Box office will open this weekend 11th/12th September. Booking on our webiste here
