Katja Wittmer
My work evolves around creating abstract Mixed Media paintings on canvas, wood and paper, using intense colours, scattering textures and dripping paint. My technique merges both abstract and figurative elements, which engages the viewer and confronts their perception of the imaginary and the real.
In my paintings, I emphasize the hidden, the subtle, and the profound. My work is multilayered and offers various dimensions, which challenge the boundaries of perception. In my conscious abstractions, I encourage a subtle, often colour geared stimulation of personal associations. In stressing the volatility of the moment, my art confronts the emotions of the viewer, seeking them to explore their emotional abyss —highs and lows, light and shadow, beauty and distortion, love and hate. The extremes we encounter, face, and embrace in life.
