I am originally from Dublin but have lived in East Clare for 25 years. Six years ago I moved to Mountshannon after retiring as a lecturer in UL. Although I have been coming to Mountshannon Arts Festival for the past 22 years I had never thought of actually doing any art myself until I started watercolour painting about four years ago. Since then I have been entranced with this medium but lately I have also started to experiment with mixed media on recycled polystyrene.
The inspiration for my work comes from what I observe around me. Magnificent cloudscapes coloured by the rising and setting sun can frequently be seen from my house. Lough Derg reflecting the surrounding scenery, and especially the ruined monastic settlement on Iniscealtra are also a wonderful source for my painting. And the lonesomeness of the Derrygoolin and Bohatch area inspire me.
This is the first time I have exhibited my work and I hope you enjoy these pieces. My thanks to the festival committee for their support.
Gerardine is a local artist from just across the lake in Terryglass. Her great love is making Rush Sculptures, using rushes which she harvests herself from the lake at the bottom of her garden.
We were blessed this year to have worked in collaboration with the Portumna Shorelines festival to bring Gerardine to several local schools, to show the children how to make lanterns from willow and tissue, for Culture Night.
Lynn is a Master Basketmaker, Multi-media Artist and Sculptor.
