Pat Starr, A Portrait

The project I am working on for Mountshannon Arts Festival; Pat Starr, A Portrait is a combination of film, audio recordings and photographs that capture a life that remains admirably robust, rugged and resistant to many of the changes in Ireland over the last 50 years.

I am a filmmaker from East Clare. My work falls somewhere between documentary, experimental film and photography. I love the collaborative and unknown path of documentary making. I always want the process of making a documentary to be an experience we all come away having gained something beyond the realms the making of a film.

For work that I am in the midst of: The Art Of Resistance The Art Of Sumud is an independent documentary I made about the extraordinary and defiant people of Palestine. This film will be screened in the coming months. I work with dancers Stephanie Keane and Sophie Hutchinson on an ongoing bases. We are exploring layers of place and desire, investigating how our external environment and our internal landscape intertwine.

I have studied anthropology, sociology, mediation and therapeutic arts, all of which influence the way I engage with creating.
